This week was a good week to practice loving-kindness. My daughter is in 7th grade and last Thursday two girls took pictures of her changing in the locker room after PE. It has been really hard to project loving-kindness. Especially since the girls aren't taking the situation seriously. And their parents aren't either. But I finally came to the conclusion that the most kind and loving thing I can do is to make sure they are held accountable for their actions. Me turning the other cheek would do absolutely no good to the girls.
Oh Tina, what a violating thing for them to do! You did a wonderful job of processing your thoughts and feelings. I agree wholeheartedly with your conclusion. Everything in life demands discipline, reason, and if we are lucky - we learn an ability to foresee consequences.
ReplyDeleteMaya Angelou was quoted as saying something like, "we can't go through life with two pitchers gloves on". Sometimes I have to ask myself if I am doing that. :)
You helped your daughter understand how to apply this exercise to her mind also by setting such a strong example for her. Chances are, she will carry the positive aspects of the experience for the rest of her life, rather than focus on the violation.
Good job!
